Director Product Design UX

As Director, UX & Accessibility, Target in India, the role is responsible for leading a set of capabilities like UX, UX Research and Accessibility to deliver guest-centric world-class digital experiences for Target.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define and implement Product Design and Design Thinking across a diverse team of user experience, accessibility and design specialists to create working teams and on-time deliverables for all product and non-product initiatives
  • Establish workflows for the integration of strategy, design, accessibility and user experience in all guest experiences 
  • Establish and execute enterprise UX governance model, including creation and maintenance of standards, such as reusable frameworks, styles and patterns.
  • Refine and implement robust style guides and pattern libraries for internal and external use that extend the defined strategy of the product design team
  • Lead all product design operational practices, including UX processes, rapid prototyping/prototyping methodologies, UX research, tools and documentation.
  • Lead product design deliverables related to the Target digital guest experience, including sitemaps, user/task flows, conceptual design, prototyping, wireframes, information architecture, interaction design, design specifications and UX research.
  • Influence the business strategy and experience creation by representing the voice of the guest and by providing insight regarding best practices and current industry standards in digital experience planning, brainstorming, requirements and assessment forums.
  • Seek, analyze, apply and advocate for guest insights to inform and shape digital guest experiences.
  • Understand and inform the overall digital experience portfolio and project workflows and how UX tasks fit into each.
  • Actively prioritize, manage and oversee UX team activities.
  • Surface risks and interdependencies within portfolio, projects and systems and work with partners to identify and implement plausible solutions/contingency plans.
  • Willingness to constructively challenge current thinking across the enterprise, pushing boundaries and driving change that will deliver exceptional user-centric experiences.

Key Competencies:

  • Deep passion for digital products and channels, constantly keeping abreast of latest trends, best practices and competitive activity.
  • Knowledgeable in Accessibility standards and practices at scale, across web and mobile technologies
  • Relevant Interface Design, Interaction Design and/or Information Architecture experience in cross-channel eCommerce.
  • Experience with Responsive / Adaptive web design and practices
  • Proficient in Agile planning and processes.
  • Previous work experience in web/software development.

  • Strong team leadership and ability to coach/guide team members
  • Sets clear goals and objectives with ongoing coaching, performance evaluation and feedback to build the best team and do the best work
  • Engages and inspires team to achieve challenging goals and high standards of performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Design, Business, Management, Strategy and Operations or other related field
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in Product Design, Interface Design, Interaction Design and/or Information Architecture.
  • Portfolio demonstrating cross-channel expertise and skill in creating user-centric digital experiences, UX research and prototyping and testing.
  • Portfolio demonstrating experience with Accessibility standards and practices
  • Demonstrates sustained experience in leading and developing a digitally-oriented multi-disciplined team.
  • Exhibits a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness and works well with ambiguity
  • Has a mastery of complex experience, marketing and business principles and exhibits strong critical thinking skills including problem solving, decision making and analysis
  • Has strong presentation skills and the ability to interact with and win support from varying levels cross-company
  • Strong leadership skills including interpersonal, communications, negotiations and team development
  • Strong digital experience capability, including working knowledge of Macintosh and PC operating systems and relevant UX software/tools, collaboration tools, UX principles, heuristic analysis, user experience assessment methodologies, and digital channel/product best practices.
  • Experience working with complex, enterprise-level user-facing and internal systems, including CMS, eCommerce, search and social.
