Team Overview:
The newly formed LoyaltyPartner Offer ManagementTeam will be responsible for all Circle Benefits offered through Target’s external partnerships. These benefits provide Circle members with access to Digital Manufacturer Coupons, integrated with our external vendor Quotient, and Digital Manufacturer Rebates, integrated with our external vendor BYBE. These two products have important footprints supported by a rich and diverse technology stack. This platform represents a set of critical Guest facing P1 applications that require high performance and scalability. Additionally, the team will have full ownership of the Votes Circle benefit that aligns and supports the wider Target Forward.
The core responsibilities of the team are:
  • Circle’s DMC (Coupons) management, full vertical ownership: external integration with vendor Quotient, guest-facing lifecycle management, internal front-end & back-end configuration service and store redemption.
  • Circle’s DMR (Rebates) management, full vertical ownership: external integration with vendor BYBE, guest-facing lifecycle management, internal front-end & back-end configuration service and store redemption.
  • Votes management, from external integration, front-end & back-end setup services, and guest-facing lifecycle services

As a lead engineer, you serve as the technical anchor for the engineering team. You create, own and are responsible for the application architecture that best serves the product capabilities. You identify and drive architectural changes to accelerate feature development or improve the quality of service (or both). You have deep and broad engineering skills and are capable of standing up an architecture in its entirety on your own, but you choose to influence a wider team by acting as a “force multiplier”. You are able to see a Product vision and develop the recommended strategy for what to build to get there.
About You:
  • Lead and develop scalable engineering solutions for cross-team concerns like resilient external integrations and management, high performance, and other architectural problems.
  • Research and develop with technologies like Kotlin and Kafka. Understand best practices and be able to solve pain points for Loyalty engineers to solve business problems.
  • Automate developer pain away by developing CLIs, Slack & GitHub bots, custom tools, or custom lint rules.
  • Maintain and support Loyalty products by triaging issues and partnering with product teams.
  • Educate, share, and teach other engineers through speaking and writing.
  • Serve and mentor other engineers through formal coaching, consulting, and pair programming.

Required qualifications
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation
  • Expert in Java, solid experience in Kotlin
  • Computer Science foundational knowledge including competencies working with design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with different testing methodologies and toolsets
  • Experience working with a source versioning tool such as Git.
  • Experience working as a member of an Agile software development team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrating technical leadership.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience engineering applications using JVM languages. Preferred experience with Kotlin.
  • Expert in building high-performance APIs.
  • Solid experience designing and fine-tuning distributed applications and data-stores for high throughput and extreme high demand.
  •  Experience building complex micro-services, cloud development, NoSQL databases, and event driven architecture.
  • Excellent track record establishing and driving excellence in software engineering practices; promoting a culture of pragmatic testing that drives high quality and efficiency.
  • Solid experience building CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid experience building high performant Kafka consumers and producers.
  • Experience with front-end development is a plus: React, JavaScript & TypeScript.
