Team overview:
The Search team at Target is dedicated to helping guests find the right products quickly and effortlessly by continuously refining our search capabilities. As part of this team, the SEO Ontology function is essential for building and maintaining structured product categorizations that enhance search engine indexing and help customers find the products they’re searching for. As Target’s assortment continues to grow, including our Target+ third-party offerings, developing a scalable SEO ontology framework is vital to ensuring effective organization and discoverability, ultimately driving traffic and engagement from external search engines.
Responsibilities:
Assess: Conduct in-depth reviews of SEO data flows, taxonomy frameworks, and technical architecture to identify optimization opportunities. Identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure that the SEO ontology framework meets the highest standards for search engine performance.
Guide: Partner with engineering, content, and UX teams throughout all stages of development as a subject matter expert in SEO ontology, ensuring the structure aligns with best practices for product discoverability and search engine indexing.
Ensure Compliance: Collaborate with privacy and legal teams to establish guidelines ensuring that the SEO ontology framework complies with Target’s data standards and adheres to relevant regulations, fostering customer trust and data transparency.
Anticipate: Keep informed on SEO trends and search engine algorithms, providing strategic guidance to enhance Target’s visibility on external search engines, increasing traffic and engagement with our digital channels.
Innovate: Champion new features and functionalities that leverage AI/ML to optimize for search engine relevancy and improve the accuracy of SEO performance metrics like keyword rankings, click-through rates, and conversion rates.
Drive to Resolution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, escalate as necessary, and work with leadership to ensure alignment with Target’s strategic SEO objectives.
Implement: Translate SEO insights, market trends, and new policies into actionable requirements for engineering and content teams, driving effective implementation that boosts external search performance and aligns with Target’s SEO strategy.
Role overview:
As a Product Manager for SEO Ontology, you will play a critical role in driving traffic to Target’s digital channels by developing a comprehensive SEO strategy and product roadmap. You’ll use industry insights, SEO data, and performance metrics to assess value, prioritize initiatives, and shape the SEO ontology framework. Acting as the “voice of the product,” you will ensure that Target’s SEO efforts meet customer needs and align with strategic goals, providing clear direction to the product team. You will also maintain a product roadmap and backlog focused on maximizing product discoverability, search engine relevancy, and site traffic, while fostering a collaborative, data-driven environment across the SEO team.

About you:
Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
4+ years of Product Management experience, ideally within SEO, taxonomy, or ontology management.
Strong proficiency in product management practices, including writing use cases, developing business requirements, and managing roadmaps.
Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional projects and working in a matrixed organizational structure.
Experience working with legal and privacy teams to translate regulatory and data privacy requirements into actionable product specifications.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor content for a range of audiences, including internal stakeholders, leadership, and external partners.
Ability to make data-driven decisions, influence cross-functional teams, and drive results in a dynamic, customer-centric environment.
