Beyond our world-class contact centers, there are many important challenges to be met in other TES teams like the TES Operations and Product Team, which plays at the intersections of process and technology, and Contact Center Service Delivery enablement (SDE) services, which develops comprehensive service delivery strategies for our contact centers. TES Product Design manages and grows loyalty, frequency, and other marketing programs for all Payment Cards (REDcard, GiftCard). Our Bank Program and included credit risk and compliance functions manage. Merchandise Finance, Capital Finance, Expense Management and Financial Goals and Forecasts. And the TES Controller heads up FRS Accounting and Financial Operations, including Accounting and Control, Retail Bankcard Services, Target Card Services, Fraud Prevention & Dispute Resolution. 

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will influence by interacting within the Data Sciences team and with Product teams, perform within the scale and scope of your role by implementing solutions, and contribute to Data Sciences and Target’s culture by modeling the culture. You’ll get the opportunity to use your expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, probability theory & statistics, optimization theory, Simulation, Econometrics, Deep Learning, Natural Language processing or computer vision. We will look to you to own design and implementation of an algorithmic solution (e.g., recommendation or forecasting algorithm), including data understanding, feature engineering, model development, validation and testing, and deployment to a production environment. You’ll drive development of problem statements that capture the business considerations, define metrics/measurement to validate model performance, and drive feasibility study with data requirements and potential solutions approaches to be considered. You’ll evaluate tradeoffs of simple vs complex models/solutions in determining the right technique to employ for a business problem and develop and maintain a nuanced understanding of the data generated by the business, including fundamental limitations of the data and create a well-maintainable & tested codebase with relevant documentation. You will get the opportunity to develop in one or more approved programming languages (Python, SQL,Java,R), and learn and adhere to best practices in data analytics.

You’ll not only stitch together basic data pipelines for a given problem and own design and implementation of individual components within Data Science/Tech applications, but also articulate the technical strategy, value of technology, and impact on the business. You will lead in identifying problem spaces and/or opportunity areas, develop & define problem statements, work through ambiguity & design long term sustainable solutions that’ll benefit your team & overall business. You will collaborate with peers on their product and provide technical support, and document and present work to peers, and participate in code reviews and gain broader understanding of different components within the application. About you

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in IT or other analytics discipline, or equivalent experience (Computer Science/ Engineering)
  • 3+ years of professional experience or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong hands-on programming skills in Python, SQL, Hadoop/Hive. Additional knowledge of Spark, Scala, R, Java desired but not mandatory
  • Experience in data wrangling & processing large data sets, including but not limited to cleaning and preparing data, querying data, and conducting exploratory analysis.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills. Ability to creatively solve business problems and innovating new approaches.
  • Good knowledge and experience developing mathematical and statistical concepts, MILP, algorithms, and computational complexity.
  • Experience in developing optimization, simulation, and statistical models.
  • Self-driven, independent & having a passion for solving interesting and relevant real-world problems using data science.
  • Experience working with ambiguity, in a dynamic & challenging environment to drive long-term sustainable solutions.
  • Proven hands-on experience developing metrics/scorecards, dashboards, and reports using Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Domo, Tableau, and Power BI)
  • Experience using reporting, visualizations, and analytical tools to build insights, communicate findings, and deliver actionable business solutions to stakeholders
  • Experience with big data architecture (i.e., Hadoop, Hive, Spark).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills – ability to understand, translate and present complex data solutions using clear, understandable reports and visualizations to business and technical audiences.
  • Experience working in the agile environment (stories, backlog refinement, etc.) 
  • Experience working in contact center analytics specifics, or retail industry
  • Able to meet tight timelines
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate effectively across geographies/time zones
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
