About the Job:

As a Senior Director of User Experience TII, your mission will be to scale and develop a cross-disciplinary team of UX design, research, accessibility practitioners to deliver impact across Target’s enterprise at our Target in India (TII) location in close partnership with our global leaders. Your leadership will enable both our digital guest retail online experience (web and native) as well as multiple team member tools and experiences across the enterprise for lines of business such as data science, merchandising capabilities, marketing and ad tech products, supply chain, and more.  The team member and enterprise tool portfolio serves hundreds of thousands of Target team members and is critical to enabling a best-in-class omnichannel retail experiences. You will be a central leadership voice on programs that are owned end-to-end in Target in India (TII), at a portfolio level for bodies of work that are shared between the US and TII, as well as influence UX at a holistic practice level. As a key member of the UX leadership team, you will contribute to establishing a thriving UX culture, raise the bar on craft and quality, and help to enable a global operating model with our growing team.


To do this, you will proactively build, maintain, and influence relationships with cross functional partners across Target, including product, engineering, and the business. You will elevate the role UX plays in driving business impact while setting a point of view and owning multiple programs across a highly dynamic, fast-paced, and matrixed organization. You will use human-centered design thinking, service design, and tried-and-true design principles to understand and prioritize UX needs, establish near and long-term strategies, and deliver a best-in-class experience for Target. You and your team will work hand in hand with global and US leaders to understand business context and strategies, establish clear roadmaps, organize, and deliver results, while helping the organization understand where opportunities may be to drive efficiency, usability, and scale.

As a senior practice leader in TII, you will coach, mentor, and guide a team of 60+ individual contributors, people leaders, and directors to elevate individual and overall team performance. You are an advocate and support to your team, helping them to grow and develop new skills, raise the bar, and integrate into the business. You have a proven track record of strengthening culture and craft, while staying in lock step with business operating rhythms and building a high-performing team. You inspire your people to have a pulse on experience trends and the technological landscape, while embracing a test and learn approach to drive a pragmatic and results-oriented culture to your team.   

You are curious, ask questions, and are driven to connect the dots. As the leader of complex, multi-faceted program areas, you will seek to co-create strategies with cross-functional partners and teams across the enterprise. You understand guest needs, omni-channel retail, and the role that UX plays in driving engagement, delight, and trust while delivering business results. You are adept at articulating aspirational big picture strategies for your team and stakeholders, are capable of zooming into the details and technical considerations to sequence and deliver work in a pragmatic and practical manner. You are an excellent communicator, skilled at explaining design recommendations to non-design stakeholders, and are comfortable advocating for both UX and the guest. You have a demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across multiple levels of executive leadership including other Senior Directors, VPs, SVPs, and senior leaders when needed.

You are a builder of design maturity within a broader product and business context. In partnership with the VP of UX and your peers, you will also help elevate the discipline by establishing, implementing, and scaling norms for design standards, design reviews, prioritization, staffing, strategic planning, and more. You are comfortable leading through change and ambiguity, educating partners, and building community of practice across multiple geographies and have a proven track record of doing this at a global level.

About you:

  • 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience); master’s degree or post graduate experience in Design, HCI, or related field a plus
  • Experience with user experience design delivering from concept through to execution
  • 7+ years of experience in people leadership with 5+ as a leader of leaders, with demonstrated strength in hiring, leading, and coaching high performing, cross-geo or remote product teams
  • Strong portfolio of work that demonstrates design team leadership, human-centered design thinking principles, compelling craft, and business impact
  • Ecommerce, marketplace, and and/ or fulfillment experience helpful
  • Exhibit industry leading, high UX, design, visual, and content judgement exhibiting universal appeal across a range of product categories
  • Awareness of best practices for information architecture, design, and usability principles
  • Fluency in standard design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, etc.
  • Mastery of Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, and / or Service Design methodology
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize ambiguous customer, business, and technology needs into compelling experience strategies
  • Solid resource management and planning skills with the ability to define high-level roadmaps, priorities, set expectations, and ensure on-track, on-time delivery in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent story-telling skills with the use of data
  • Role based in Bangalore, HQ TII.
  • Growth oriented, strategic mindset with experience simultaneously diving deep and leading long-range planning
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, projects across multiple stakeholders at the same time, simultaneously managing working team & partners
