Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 500 company and one of America’s leading retailers.
Our purpose is to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a Content Designer (UX Writer) on the Operational Communications team, you’ll bring that purpose to life across emails, push notifications, and more.
About the job
We’re looking for a writer who can use Design Thinking to help transform the way Target communicates with its guests. You’ll be embedded in the Operational Communications teams, working alongside designers, product owners, and email developers to deliver best-in-class communications, but you’ll also have the support of the Content Design team to compare notes on writing, language, and how content comes to life across the organization. You’ll support a diverse set of communication requests coming from across the organization, but you’ll stay true to the guest’s needs and advocate for clear, concise communication in all its forms.
Day-to-day, you will…
Write clear, concise, and engaging content for Target’s operational communications, which includes time-sensitive emails and push notifications regarding guests’ orders and other account-related information.
Collaborate closely with designers, product owners, researchers, and your fellow content designers.
Work with stakeholders to understand what information the guest needs in each communication and provide recommendations on how to best communicate it.
Understand and embody Target’s voice and tone, and use it to ensure consistency across communications.
Learn from research, data, and guest insights to help inform how and what you say to Target’s guests in each moment.
Participate in guest research and learn to conduct your own with guidance from our research team.
Participate in critiques, workshops, and skill-development opportunities.
Be part of a rapidly growing culture and team committed to inclusivity, accessibility, and authenticity for all Target guests.
1–2 years of experience working in written communications (this can include internships and non-traditional forms of work).
A portfolio that showcases your passion for language and commitment to clarity.
Ability to present your work in front of peers and mentors.
Excellent written, verbal and team communication skills.
Ability to hear feedback, defend your decisions when necessary but also adjust your approach to the language or problem when necessary.
Interest in learning more about the intersection of language and design in user experience.
Experience with design tools like Figma or Sketch is a plus.
*Open to remote candidates and working arrangements.
