As an Engineer, you serve as a technical specialist delivering the engineering that powers the product. You develop keen insight into the technical architecture and design to deliver robust and scalable software components. You constantly demonstrate the depth of your expertise by solving engineering problems. You are passionate about the quality of software and balance between speed of delivering new features and robustness of the software components you implement. You can handle operational issues with little or no oversight. You actively review code to ensure the software quality and functional accuracy is maintained across the team. You are keen to learn the design and architecture of the product and participate in ceremonies that can influence both.

Target Owned Brands-Wholesale is an exciting new business venture built upon Target's success with Owned Brand products that focuses on selling our products globally, expanding our reach into new retail markets. To support this expansion, we are building new engineering teams to architect, build, and implement an end-to-end technology platform that will complement Target's existing solution landscape. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business and driving the growth of Target Wholesale on a global scale.
As an engineer on the Owned Brands - Wholesale team, you will work on cutting-edge technologies to design and implement scalable, robust, and innovative solutions from the ground up. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of engineers, product managers, business stakeholders and other cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-impact solutions that meets the evolving needs of our business. You'll have the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and contribute to key architectural decisions. You are passionate about the quality of software and balance between speed of delivering new features and robustness of the software components you implement. You contribute to research and proof-of-concept and assist with code review, writes, organizes and maintains code based on designs. Participate in structured construction, automation, debugging, and implementation activities, ensuring architectural and operational requirements and best practices are met. Resolve frequently encountered technical issues and monitors systems capacity with minimal assistance. You are keen to learn the design and architecture of the product and participate in ceremonies that can influence both. Your contributions will directly influence the success of this transformative business model, empowering Target to redefine how we serve the Wholesale market.
Our engineering teams are empowered to select the appropriate technology for the problem they are trying to solve. Common technologies include:
- Front end technologies like ReactJS
- Languages and Frameworks like Spring Boot, Java, Kotlin, REST, Gradle
- Databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra etc
- Distributed event streaming platform like Kafka
- CICD: Code Pipelines like Docker, Drone, Vela, Spinnaker, Testing frameworks
- Metrics visualizations like Grafana
- Log aggregation with Logstash and Kibana

About you:
- 4 year degree or equivalent experience
- 1+ years of software development experience
- Demonstrates familiarity with current and emerging technologies in own scope of responsibility, and develops ability to apply these technologies
- Demonstrates and continuously builds upon domain-specific knowledge
- Demonstrates proficiency in at least one computer language and framework (opensource)
- Understands the concepts of distributed programming and applies it to their domain
- Knowledge of data structures and their applications in your chosen programming language.
- Stays current with new and evolving technologies through formal training and self-directed learning.
- Experience in modern backend technologies Java/Kotlin, NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, graph structure, etc.)
- Experience with modern frontend programing in JavaScript and frameworks such as ReactJS
- Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
