The pay range is $85,500.00 - $153,900.00

As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs, providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem-solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences.

Target Owned Brands-Wholesale is an exciting new business venture built upon Target's success with Owned Brand products that focuses on selling our products globally, expanding our reach into new retail markets. To support this expansion, we are building new engineering teams to architect, build, and implement an end-to-end technology platform that will complement Target's existing solution landscape. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business and driving the growth of Target Wholesale on a global scale.

As a Senior Engineer on the team, you will leverage cutting-edge technologies to design and implement scalable, robust, and innovative solutions from the ground up. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact solutions that align with the evolving needs of our business. In this role, you will tackle complex challenges, make critical architectural decisions, and set the technical direction for the team. You are passionate about delivering high-quality software, balancing the speed of feature delivery with the robustness and maintainability of the solutions you design and implement. Your responsibilities will include contributing to research initiatives, developing proof-of-concept prototypes, and conducting thorough code reviews. You will write, organize, and maintain high-quality code that adheres to architectural and operational standards. Additionally, you will participate in structured development processes, including automation, debugging, and deployment, ensuring best practices are consistently met. You will proactively resolve technical issues, monitor system performance and capacity, and provide guidance to the team on design and architectural decisions. Your expertise will directly influence the success of this transformative business model, empowering Target to redefine how we serve the Wholesale market. 

Our engineering teams are empowered to select the appropriate technology for the problem they are trying to solve. Common technologies include: 

  • Front end technologies like ReactJS
  • Languages and Frameworks like Spring Boot, Java, Kotlin, REST, Gradle
  • Databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra etc
  • Distributed event streaming platform like Kafka
  • CICD: Code Pipelines like Docker, Drone, Vela, Spinnaker, Testing frameworks
  • Metrics visualizations like Grafana
  • Log aggregation with Logstash and Kibana

About you:

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms within own domain
  • Proven ability to design, write, and organize high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Working knowledge and expertise on package-specific configuration and deployment along with ability to build custom solutions
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of the impact of own work on objectives and business goals.
  • Writes and organizes code using multiple computer languages, including distributed programming and understand different frameworks and paradigm
  • Delivers high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables with broad impact
  • Influences and applies data standards, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding abc technology capabilities, and key competitors’ products and differentiating features
  • Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate team priorities
  • Designs new testing methods and resolves routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance
  • Creates secure, repeatable, and high-performance deliverables that have a broad organizational impact.
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies through formal training and self-directed learning.
  • Hands-on experience with modern backend technologies, including Java/Kotlin, and databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, or graph structures.
  • Expertise in modern frontend programing in JavaScript and frameworks such as ReactJS
  • Strong communication skills and coordinates with team, partners, and stakeholders effectively

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
