In this role, you’ll work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure Target’s furniture and storage products are thoughtfully designed, rigorously tested, and efficiently manufactured. You’ll also collaborate with vendors and internal teams to bring the brand vision to life in a way that meets performance standards, safety protocols, and sustainability goals.
As an Associate Product Engineer for Furniture & Storage, you will:
Develop and maintain technical specifications for furniture and storage products in Target-owned brands, ensuring alignment with brand goals for quality, functionality, and cost.
Partner with design, sourcing, and compliance teams to create solutions that balance design intent with manufacturability and cost efficiency.
Monitor and incorporate user feedback, vendor insights, and industry advancements into product development processes.
Support quality assurance by maintaining a working knowledge of government regulations, safety requirements, and Target’s performance standards.
Research trends in materials, manufacturing techniques, and product innovation to identify opportunities for improvement and white space in the market.
Assist in the creation, testing, and refinement of prototypes to validate concepts and ensure product performance.
Provide recommendations for cost optimization, enhanced functionality, and sustainability in furniture and storage product development.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
1+ years of related industry experience, ideally in furniture, storage, or consumer product development.
Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product assembly.
Problem-solving skills and a creative approach to technical challenges.
Excellent communication and project management skills.
Interest in sustainability and innovative design solutions.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
