A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Are you a design expert who can support your business by staying one step ahead of industry trends, new materials and techniques? Can you demonstrate the utmost attention to detail and create products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their design and quality for the price? Then you’ll have success on our Design team that owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and beauty to essentials. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you’ll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.
As an Associate Designer in Soft Goods, you will support Owned Brand Product Design and Development with direction from design leaders to achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives in the Bedding, Toss/Throw and Bath categories. You will be expected to maintain a diligent and self-directed approach to workload, and provide accurate and timely communication to internal and external partners. You will support product/trend research, design/development of products as well as sample reviews and prepping for share-outs. You will also assist the team in preparing product specs, product direction and visual line plans. In addition, you’ll translate ideas using CAD/hand sketches. This includes completing design/technical sketches and professional presentation boards/materials for meetings, and vendor partners. You will also work closely with the Technical Design department, working together to communicate desired product details.

About you:
Four-year degree in Design, Industrial Design, Textiles, or similar area of study, or equivalent experience
1+ years of experience
Strong aptitude for trend, design and print & pattern; demonstrated high taste level, creative ability and proclivity for innovation.
Ability to research and apply market/trend information
Passion for home decor
Computer design system skills including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
Experience in CAD illustration or 2D/3D software
Understanding of textiles & product production process
Experience assimilating product feedback
Ability to build strong partnerships in order to successfully work in a team environment
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
