A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers and technical designers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Can you ensure that each product has that just-right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Then you’ll have success on our Product Development & Design team who owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and essentials, beauty and pets. Here, you’ll partner with our research, design, quality, and compliance teams to understand guest needs, performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, testing protocols and develop products that meet them. You’ll leverage collective expertise to continuously improve existing products and develop new products.

Associate Technical Design Role

As an Associate Technical Designer, you will partner with Designers, Scientists, Merchants, Sourcing and Vendors to understand the business initiatives, product aesthetic, functional requirements and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product.  Must exhibit an understanding of strategic initiatives and proactively work to implement supporting product solutions.  Be adept at developing and demonstrating a clear point of view/vision for the brand/product along with Designer & Scientist using trend ideas, inspiration and market knowledge.

You will help identify technical specifications and quality standards and will be responsible for timely sample reviews to ensure all specifics are met. Including, but not limited to, fit consistency, function, construction details and dimensions. You will monitor guest feedback, government regulations, safety protocols, and industry trends to create technical strategies for product development programs.  Along with continuous improvement on existing products you will develop new product concepts alongside the product development team by researching unmet needs and identifying white space opportunities. You will put those ideas into action by collaborating with vendor partners to develop concepts for large scale manufacturing and oversee the user testing, vendor production, and post launch performance.  With regards to research, you will be responsible for understanding the competition and benchmarks for specified product categories and developing innovative product solutions.

About You:

• Four-year degree in Design, Textiles, Engineering or similar area, or equivalent experience

• 1+ years of experience in a related field

• Understanding of textiles, raw materials & product production

• Computer design system skills including Adobe programs

• Ability to assimilate product feedback

• Ability to successfully work in a diverse team environment
