As a Target Communications Lead, Diversity & Inclusion, you play a critical role in helping advance Target’s diversity and inclusion strategies, goals and initiatives internally and externally. The Communications Lead, Diversity & Inclusion, manages internal and external communications efforts for a variety of projects and initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a Communications vision to promote for Target’s diversity & inclusion goals and strategies, while also positively impacting Target’s inclusive company culture
  • Serve as primary, day-to-day contact and counselor for Communications colleagues, cross-functional partners (Marketing, Corporate Responsibility, Supplier Diversity, etc.) and leaders across the enterprise
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication plans to support key diversity & inclusion initiatives, partnerships and events, including Heritage Months like Asian Heritage Month, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Pride Month, Veterans Day and Women’s History Month
  • Provide executive communications support for Target’s Chief Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Officer through planning, counseling and presentations support
  • Manage a media relations strategy and all media inquiries, proactive and reactive, related to diversity & inclusion topics
  • Drive a steady drumbeat of content on Target’s internal and external channels with a consistent voice on diversity & inclusion topics, both during key culture moments and to mitigate potential issues
  • Lead external agency partners and manage associated budgets
  • Measure, track and analyze Communications program effectiveness to inform future plans
  • Keep a regular pulse on the diversity & inclusion and retail industries, sharing timely updates and implications with colleagues and business partners

Skills required:

  • More than 8 years of related internal and external communications experience working in a corporate communications or agency setting
  • Experience working in Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, HR and/or employee engagement business areas within a retailer or large organization
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of the retail environment, diversity & inclusion landscape and an ability to distill trends into communications implications
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to coach and counsel senior leaders
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple peers and stakeholders, influencing without authority, developing strong working relationships  
  • Passion for diversity & inclusion initiatives
  • Ability to develop compelling communication strategies with clear and measurable goals
  • Ability to project manage while balancing multiple competing priorities on a daily basis
  • Strong writing for various forms (i.e., email, speeches, media talking points) with expertise in AP Style
  • Strong media relations skills
