Whether specializing in law, government affairs, employee relations, risk, compliance, ethics, security or food safety, we use our expertise and influence to advocate for Target, support Target’s business and mitigate risk for the company. We work with both internal and external entities on key issues that affect Target’s ability to productively, ethically and securely conduct business. Through our understanding of Target’s business models and operations, we help facilitate Target’s growth, and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate, well-informed decisions. Simultaneously, we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand, guests, team members, stores, distribution centers and corporate locations.

A role in Labor Relations means counseling and supporting your partners in the field or headquarters in ensuring a positive, comfortable and inclusive environment for all. Your work will have a positive impact across the operation, helping to demonstrate the exceptional quality Target offers as a workplace.

 As Director, Labor Relations, you will:

  • Develop Store and Supply Chain strategies to improve team member experience within assigned regions, distribution centers or headquarters functions; Develop an intimate understanding of the nuances of assigned region/business functions and lead a team of consultants through the development and implementation of individual market strategies to close culture gaps

  • Work with Human Resources and Operations to proactively identify Stores and GSCL Buildings to improve team member experience

  • Provide leadership, work direction and onsite support to the team responsible advising Field and HQ partners on issues relating to concerted protected activity; Ensure compliance with the National Labor Relations Act, related laws and regulations, and Target policies and practices

  • Work with cross functional teams to ensure Target’s vendor and suppliers comply with Target’s Standards of Vendor Engagement, Human Rights policy, and other policies and practices

  • Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources and other key stakeholders to effectuate business change while improving team member experience

  • Maintain deep industry and subject matter expertise in the labor and employment space, ensuring awareness and interpretation of incoming legislation or emerging trends, and providing guidance to partners on regulations impacting Target team members

  • Develop and implement strategies, goals, and processes to leverage feedback, team member and HR data, and established policies and practices in order to advise partners, identify methods to improve team member experience, and ultimately protect Target’s employment brand and reputation

  • Collaborate with senior cross-functional leaders to identify issues, propose solutions and implement action plans that improve operations and team member engagement; establish ongoing routines with partners to regularly review data, monitor the effectiveness of actions taken, identify priorities, and prepare for future interventions

  • In partnership with key stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of leader and team member training with an emphasis on how to effectively lead large teams and drive an engaged workforce

  • Continuously evaluate team processes and partner with leadership to identify opportunities for efficiency, scale and improvement; lead and participate in company and department initiatives and prioritize efforts that align with broader Field and HQ objectives, as appropriate

  • Recognize trends pertaining to Target culture, leadership behaviors or enterprise risks and establish a cadence to share insights with the broader Employee and Labor Relations Team

  • Create and maintain a positive team culture by demonstrating behaviors consistent with Target’s values of Inclusivity, Connection and Drive; ensure on-going, effective communications to the team, and support individualized development by offering regular performance feedback, coaching, recognition and evaluation

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Position requires a flexible work schedule to accommodate business needs, which may include non-traditional work hours, overnight travel and/or weekend availability

  • Ability to travel up to 75%

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 8+ years of progressive experience within Retail or Distribution Center leadership, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Legal Affairs, Compliance, or other relevant business functions

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments and externally

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and distill complex issues into actionable plans

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create transparency and confidence and influence across all levels of Target Team Members

  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks or projects in response to ambiguous, changing or competing priorities

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining appropriate prioritization and ensuring adherence to deadlines

  • Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity while working with confidential information

This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target’s needs.  A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that’s not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target. The salary range is :$119,500.00 USD - $215,100.00 USD. Pay is based on several factors which may include, but are not limited to education, work experience, certifications, labor markets, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
