Lead Indirect Planner

  • Promoting best practices across the entire company by developing deep knowledge and client relationships in each spend category
  • Providing expert integrated business planning and stakeholder management for all indirect items and services
  • Applying intelligent rate, demand and specification levers to source, negotiate and contract services while sustainably lowering costs
  • Propelling the business with accurate and comprehensive demand forecasting, financial planning and item setup
  • Changing the game for our internal online catalog end users by making the entire buying process faster and simpler
  • Helping us cultivate Target’s partnerships with diverse, community-minded suppliers who are committed to economic development and job growth  

The Lead Indirect Planner represents Procurement in cross-functional Enterprise teams by providing Indirect Procurement vision and strategic direction as it relates to timelines and milestones, financials, forecasts, risks, and communication.  This position is responsible for collaborating with internal and external partner teams to champion new initiatives that show potential for return.  This will be accomplished by developing processes and routines that afford the successful execution of large scale and scope projects and programs. In this role, the Lead Indirect Planner is accountable to all aspects of Indirect Procurement through proactive partnerships with Properties and cross-company teams.

Project/Process Management

  • Builds strong relationships with partners and working teams to develop achievable project timing and action plans
  • Creates and implements best practices
  • Leads program and project level cross-functional teams within Procurement and Indirect & Reverse Logistics, with limited definition and management oversight, to ensure the successful execution of projects
  • Independently manages complex programs and projects simultaneously
  • Drives to issue resolution and prioritizes operational workload
  • Maintains broad knowledge of the business and a clear understanding of the Enterprise Strategic Initiatives


  • Effectively communicates, presents, and manages expectations regarding project and business strategies, risk mitigation, and key decisions to all levels of the organization
  • Independently creates and delivers presentations to Sr. Management and stakeholder committees
  • Develops, champions and communicates Procurement processes
  • Effectively navigates the enterprise, manages conflict situations, and drives for issue resolution

 Partner Management

  • Develops strong working relationships with cross-enterprise teams
  • Negotiates mutually beneficial solutions and prioritizes involvement in decisions

About you:

  • 4-year degree and/or equivalent experience
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills, organization, planning and time management skills
  • Excellent listening, communication (written and verbal), and collaboration skills
  • Ability to connect tactical deliverables to enterprise strategy
  • Ability to manage ambiguity
  • Ability to drive change and execute, persuade and influence others
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Connects tactical deliverables to enterprise strategy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule (as applicable)

Even better if:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) experience/certification
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale Construction programs
  • Knowledge of Target systems and processes
  • Experience/knowledge of Indirect Procurement processes and partners including; Construction, Store Design, Sourcing, Procurement, Store Operations and Indirect (Non-Retail) Supply Chain
  • Excellent scheduling and communication skills
  • MBA or advanced degree in related field
