The Pricing & Promotions Center of Excellence (PPCoE) is a key pillar with the Merchandising organization at Target that comes to work every day on a mission to ensure our guests feel confident they paid a great price every time they shop at Target. 

A Product owner role with the Pricing & Promotion Center of Excellence (COE) means you’re on a mission with merchants to develop the enterprise-­wide pricing and promotion strategies. Your work will impact millions of dollars in the form of everyday retail prices, promotional strategy and effectiveness, clearance management and competitive pricing. Here, you’ll be a key business consultant to merchants and develop relationships with buyers, senior buyers and leaders. Your strong partnership with Marketing, Digital and Stores teams will bring offers to life for guests, and you’ll also work closely with Store Operations, Finance and other key support areas.

The Promotions Product team develops enterprise products that serve as the command center for Target team members to easily make the best decisions that bring Target’s promotional strategy to life for our guests. Our team connects the business strategies of merchandising and the creativity of marketing with the power of technology and data science to build products that will drive promotional decision making, operational excellence and a seamless guest experience.

About the Job:

The Promotions Insights Analytics Product is responsible for developing and integrating our promotions data across the enterprise and with competitive data to enable decision support, promotional effectiveness, and operational efficiency. This data informs both strategic and tactical decisions and are foundational to enabling the team to more efficiently plan the best promotions for Target and our guests.

This role requires a deep understanding of our promotional strategies and setup as well as complex business logic and calculation rules around redemption and attribution, sales performance financial analysis, marketing and guest segmentation.  This requires the ability to clearly articulate complex information across a broad spectrum of stakeholders to effectively drive decisions, evangelize the product and leverage promotion results with influence our strategy, setup decisions, guest experience and financial outcomes.

The primary business partners for this product are cross-functional Promo Product Owners, Price & Promo CoE team members, Check-out, Point-of-Sale, Analytics and Data Science and Guest Experience teams working together to evaluate promotional effectiveness to deliver optimal value for Target.

Product Teams at Target are accountable for the delivery of business outcomes enabled through technology and analytic products that are easy to use, easily maintained and highly reliable. Product teams have one shared backlog that is inclusive of all product, technology, discovery and design work.

As a Lead Product Owner, you will work in the product model and will partner to develop a comprehensive product strategy, related roadmap, and set key business objectives (OKRs) for your respective product.  You will need to leverage the knowledge of your product, as well as, customer feedback and establish other relevant data points to assess value, develop business cases, and prioritize the direction and desired outcomes for your product. You will lead a product and work in unison with engineers, UX designers, data scientists and business partners to deliver a product.

You will be the “voice of the product” to key stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met and that the product team is getting the direction and support that it needs to be successful. You will develop and actively understand the market, maintain a product roadmap and backlog outlining the customer themes, epics, and stories while prioritizing the backlog to focus on the highest impact work for your team and stakeholders.

You will encourage the open exchange of information and viewpoints, as well as, inspire others to achieve challenging goals and high standards of performance while committing to the organization's direction. You will foster sense of urgency to achieve goals and leverage resources to overcome unexpected obstacles, and partner with product teams across the organization to help them achieve their goals while pursuing and completing yours. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years of retail experience or equivalent domain experience (pricing/promotions experience is a plus)
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate communication between business, data science and technology teams
  • Ability to lead & influence cross-discipline, global teams and cross-functional partners
  • Experience with complex analytics, data science, data visualization, technology
  • Experience building big data driven products & working knowledge of models in Machine Learning
  • Experience working in an agile environment (e.g. user stories, iterative development, scrum teams, sprints, personas)
