A role in Planning means being in charge of the financials and forecasting for one of Target’s businesses. Here, you’ll conduct comparative analysis of holiday or other seasonal performance reports and provide the insights that inform the Inventory team’s work to ensure that product supports projected sales. Acting as the hub between Merchandising and Supply Chain, you will create a financial link between these two essential groups and have a voice in some of the most important decisions from a financial strategy standpoint.
The Merchandise Planner provides in-season decision support, collaborates on assortment planning, and leads demand forecasting in service of the divisional strategy through category expertise, and vendor/cross-functional partnership. This specific Planner role is an instrumental force in driving the D207 Video Game Software and PC Gaming businesses. It will provide an opportunity to work with some of the most innovative and fastest growing companies going into 2021 within a business that is highly promotional, holiday sensitive and has a complex lifecycle management aspect to it given the importance of New Releases.
Responsibilities of the Role
In-Season Demand Forecasting
Create category level demand forecast and drive open to buy process. Conduct root cause analysis for variation between supply and demand forecasts to support “chase-cancel” decisions.
Interpret forecast results, conduct “what if” analysis to support go forward recommendations when there are gaps.
Assortment Planning Collaboration
Run analytics and drive decisions to create a financially viable assortment strategy. Determine category level investment and assortment validity to support financials.
Conduct scenario planning to help optimize assortment including segmentation and channel recommendations (e.g. cluster types, profiles).
Build unit plans and conduct case pack analysis. Lead initial set planning and operationalization.
Event and End of Season Planning
Create and maintain promotion forecast and risk analysis; partner with Pricing and Promotions COE to finalize unit forecast.
Analyze item lifecycles and drive recommendations for end of season management.
Price and Promotion Collaboration
Collaborates with Price and Promotion Center of Excellence (PPCOE) to analyze and project the full financial impact of historic and future cost and retail changes.
Drives the Cross Functional Team (CFT) to profitable decisions through thought leadership that effectively balances Target’s differentiation through superior product quality and guest-facing value.
Analyzes and communicates the impact that retail changes will have on unit volume, including but not limited to: Unit plans, Sales & Operating Plans, Promotional Plans, Financial Forecasts, store labor planning, and other replenishment plans. Through objective analysis, proposes alternative solutions to proposed cost and retail changes such as renegotiation, changes in promotional strategy, margin mix balancing across a broader portfolio of goods, and similar activities
- Four-year degree or equivalent experience
- 1+ years of Merchandising experience
- Strong strategic, financial, and analytical skills; can easily translate data from an array of sources into insights and recommendations
- Strong collaboration skills to partner with cross-functional teams
- Flexible, resilient and comfortable working in “grey areas” that are constantly changing
