Global Inventory Management A role in Global Inventory Management means applying your specialized and well-informed point of view to what we buy, from whom, how much and where it needs to go from there. You’ll use the right combination of data and expertise to achieve the best possible product availability through proper inventory positioning. You’ll also focus on the efficient transportation of product around the world, while ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and achieving the best possible product availability through proper inventory positioning. You’ll not only establish and develop great relationships with our vendors to encourage on-time shipment and delivery to stores and ultimately guests, but you’ll also analyze transportation supplier capabilities and contracts for maximum speed, reliability and cost effectiveness.

The Inventory Planning Control (IPC) team within the Global Inventory Management team, is specifically responsible for monitoring and operating Target’s Inventory Planning and Control, systems. This team is responsible for the systems Inventory Analysts and Managers will use to get recommended order quantities, implement automatic ordering, decide how much inventory to buy, when to bring inventory into the target network, and where to position it.  The IPC team innovates and continuously improves processes that result in sophisticated, intelligent and self-learning models. IPC is unique in that we are simultaneously developing the science of supply chain planning at Target and responsible for studying, designing, and building systems to suit Target’s needs.

About the Job:

As a project leader, you will be accountable to becoming an expert in how Target’s modern inventory management systems will support owned brand sourcing and import ordering  This will include working closely with product and process owners to help define new capabilities and interaction models and establishing new metrics to monitor process compliance, system and inventory health.  As an expert, you will contribute to the design of end-to-end process and capability flows engaging the appropriate partners along the way to create these new capabilities considering the people, process and technology need to deliver successful outcomes. 

As a member of the IPC team you will work closely with capability product owners to design, develop and maintain system driven solutions to allow users to easily leverage Target’s systems to manage the end-to-end sourcing of Target’s own branded inventory.   It will be critical you possess an understanding of retail, sourcing and/or manufacturing of retail goods and how best in class retail/vendor operations experiences result in best in class execution and customer.    Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+  years of retail, sourcing or manufacturing of apparel and home products
  • Experience with technology and ability to facilitate communication between business and technology teams
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to influence both at a strategic leadership level and cross functionally
  • Ability to translate complex ideas into standardized and repeatable processes
  • Ability to lead and influence a team while fostering relationships across multiple enterprise wide teams
  • Experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams and partners at multiple levels of the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • High degree of comfort presenting at multiple levels of the organization
  • Experience with sourcing of retail product from overseas vendors and manufacturers
