As a Senior Art Director for Store Experience Marketing, you’ll ideate, art direct, and design world-class creative communications and experiences that live inside Target stores.
Creatively—you’ll create work that celebrates, resonates and helps build and maintain meaningful connections with our guest. You’ll represent Target’s brand (voice and culture) to infuse the work with an unmistakable Target approach, seamlessly integrating a multicultural lens. Your work will highlight category and seasonal product stories, and engage our guests – making it easy to shop, and inspire the joy of discovery. From a business perspective, your innovative art direction and design skills deliver on business goals and objectives, guide our guests in their shopping experience, build brand equity, strengthen guest loyalty, and ultimately drive sales.
As part of a Target Creative team of Designers, Copywriters, Art Directors, Production Artists, Project Managers, Strategists and ACD’s, you’ll collaborate with the Retail Brand Experience team – (Visual Merchandising, Packaging and Store Experience Planning & ops teams), ensuring compelling, connected, storytelling that enhances product display and experience.
You demonstrate strategic and conceptual thinking, a strong taste level and experience in photo/art direction, typography and graphic design, and are confident in using design tools. Your skillset includes the ability to convey your vision across a variety of spaces and places within the store. You’re self-motivated, comfortable in fast-paced environments, and meeting deadlines. You understand cultural trends, and think strategically about how to show up for different audiences. In concepting phase, you’ll ideate, collaborate, create presentations, and are able to confidently and clearly articulate creative intent to peers, partners and leadership. In execution phase, you will design and/or oversee photo art direction, electronic and print production details. You know how to take direction and bring others along to get the work done, seek creative solutions to overcome obstacles, and are skilled at observing best practices and actively adopting and for self and team.
Critical to the role is staying current with the latest industry, fashion, beauty, cultural, graphic, and technology trends, as well as demonstrating application to projects. We will support you along the way with onboarding, as well as personal and career development, to help you grow as a strong Senior Art Director.

- 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
- 5-7+ years of creative experience in advertising agencies and/or in-house brand studios
- Experience in retail and Style categories are a plus
- Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and breadth of design, typography and a strong understanding and application of art direction. Please include portfolio link on resume.
- Leadership skills to provide art direction to team and collaborators
- Effective visual and verbal presentation skills
- Connect creative work to the strategy/brief
- Skilled in managing and executing complex projects at many different stages
- Open to feedback and able to deal with change
- Solid understanding of Macintosh computer and graphics industry software programs, including the CS3 suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.
- Have an operational knowledge of font usage, file management, and print & digital production
- Flexible to travel (weekends included)
