The pay range is $89,700.00 - $161,500.00

A role with the Design team is a big opportunity to lead and inspire. As a Senior Designer in Outdoor Living, you will shape the future of this category by staying ahead of industry trends, materials, and techniques. You’ll create innovative products that not only stand out for their design and quality but are also accessible to our guests. This role involves overseeing a wide range of products in the outdoor living space, including furniture, décor, and planters, while designing the soft goods portion of the business. You'll collaborate closely with our merchant and sourcing teams to bring your design vision to life, ensuring alignment with merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and overall creative direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design strategy and execution for the outdoor living product category, ensuring alignment with the overall brand direction.

  • Support the soft goods and botanical portions of the business by collaborating with peers to drive cohesive designs across categories.

  • Conduct product research and market analysis to forecast trends in outdoor living and adjacent categories.

  • Partner closely with merchants, sourcing, and technical design teams to deliver products that meet quality, cost, and aesthetic goals.

  • Guide concept development, material and fabric selection, color stories, and product execution.

  • Mentor and collaborate with other designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Travel as needed to global markets and factories to identify trends and ensure high standards in product development and execution.

  • Report to and collaborate with the Director of Outdoor Living to align on design vision, strategies, and overall category goals.

  • Mentor and manage a small team of designers working on Outdoor Living.

About You:

  • Four-year degree in Design, Fine Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 8+ years of experience in product design and development, with a focus on outdoor living or a related category.

  • Strong leadership ability, with experience mentoring and guiding design teams.

  • Proficiency in design software, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Strong understanding of materials, product production, and development processes.

  • Commercial awareness and market knowledge, with the ability to apply trend insights to create innovative, on-brand products.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
