From brand and patent law to contract development and negotiations, you’ll be challenged and gratified by a role with Target Legal Affairs.

A role in Food Safety means working in a critical area that will support Target’s efforts to identify, prioritize and minimize areas of food safety risk as well as proactively educate and equip team members by providing simplified tools, processes and training. You will have a number of resources available to you as you leverage technology, metrics, reporting and communication to monitor and drive compliance in this critical area.

As a Quality Ripener, you will

  •  Manage all activities related to banana handling and ripening, to include conducting quality inspections, forecasting and planning ripening cycles to account for demand, actual ripening, managing entire banana inventory, and supervise post ripening handling.
  • Work with the Target HQ teams assigned to each commodity to fulfill their daily store order projections.
  • Provide HQ teams with a schedule of delivery dates, determined by the ripener, to support the dates that the ripener has judged necessary to meet daily outbound projections.
  • In tandem with HQ teams and FDC Transportation specialist, alert to any off schedule deliveries
  • Perform inspections to ensure product meets all required Target specs at delivery. Determines banana maturity and develops schedule to manage successful ripening cadence for each delivery.
  • Collaborate with the FDC TMs to ensure that room maintenance, sanitation, equipment, and supply requirements are managed to meet successful ripening demands.
  • Provide clear direction and supervision for FDC Inbound and Outbound teams for proper loading and unloading of rooms and plans daily room selection-staging and room return.
  • Anticipates, recognizes, and reacts to changes in ripening demands and uses analytical skills and judgement to manage inventory ripeness.
  • Communicate any coverage concerns with FDC QM Manager
  • Communicate daily; Ripening Board Report, Withdrawal Report, and Target Shipping Room Sheet
  • Provide two room confirmation checks to determine next ripening action, properly documented, at the front end and back end of each workday.
  • When tasks are complete, additional time working with the Quality Technicians performing inspections

About you:

  • B.A/B.S degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Banana Ripening Specialist
  • Can lift up to 60 pounds
  • Demonstrate innovative and creative problem-solving skills
  • Tailors message by the audience, negotiate consequences, handle crisis, setbacks, and conflicts constructively and diplomatically, and provide essential information to the right people at the right time
  • High level of initiative and organization, with the ability to be resilient and adaptable and manage ambiguity, risk, uncertainty and changing directions
  • Works independently with limited direction
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite applications
